Although he was born with severe to profound hearing loss, wears a hearing aid, and has spoken fluently since he was very young, Dale Jellison has never considered himself deaf and does not want to be treated any differently.
Dale’s childhood was spent in a small town nestled in the seacoast region of New Hampshire as well as visits to the woods in the eastern part of Maine near his birthplace. During his middle and high school years, he was involved in local theater and drama clubs. He was also involved with the local fire department’s Fire Explorer program – learned firefighting and prevention, and responded to emergency calls, to help others in the community and neighboring towns.
He graduated from public high school with honors and is believed to have been the first deaf student to be inducted into the school’s National Honor Society during his sophomore year. He has beaten the odds and surprised those who doubted him.
Today, Dale is an accountant by trade and a writer in his spare time. He enjoys traveling, hiking, and biking and hopes to expand his travels to other countries.
